Month of the Military Child 2024

Month of the Military Child

The official flower of the military child is the dandelion, and here is why: Dandelions put down roots almost anywhere and it is almost impossible to destroy. It is an unpretentious plant, yet good looking. It is a survivor in a broad range of climates.

Each April, we get to recognise the important role that military children play in the Armed Forces family. As a school we have been taking part in celebrating this with the following activities:

15th and 16th April - M A D Education UK Military Activity Days - see their website for pictures and videos of other school experiences: https://www.mad-educationuk.com/schools

From our Sports Premium Grant we have funded two days of activities, enabling a session for each class.

17th April - UKS2 - Wherever Home Is

Thursday 25th April was CAMO day and Falcons Launch for Year 4 and 5 service children

Children were invited to come to school dressed in CAMO with a suggested donation of £1 for Little Troopers Charity.

Friday 26th April Year 3 & 4 Partnership Services Day

Year 3 and 4 joined other schools from Carterton on the Rec for lunch and activities 11-1.

Pupil Voice

MAD Education Military SPorts Day:

"I think the military sports day was really fun but very tiring. On the big hurdles I kept falling over at the start but I kept trying and by the end I was bunny hopping over them all! The session leader was nice and encouraging." Year 5

"It was a good but intense session. We had to do lots of challenges such as pulling a heavy tire by a rope and crawling under a net on our elbows and knees. Lots of people's shoes got stuck in the net which was funny." Year 6

Drama Day:

"I thought the drama day was really good. I liked the characters. The story they performed was based on a real story which was really interesting. We were able to ask the characters questions in a hot-seat activity too which was good." Year 5

"The performance was really good and reminded me a lot about my own situation being a military child. It was nice to feel more understood." Year 6
