Edith Moorhouse Primary School opened in September 1969, to cater for children residing in the western zone of Carterton. The school roll is currently about three-quarters civilian children and a quarter children of Service Families from Royal Air Force Brize Norton.
The school is designed to encourage both co-operation and flexibility in our teaching. We currently have twelve classes housed in four department units:
- There is a Foundation Stage Unit for pupils aged 3, 4 and 5. In this unit we have three classes; an F2 Nursery class for our part time pupils and two F1 Reception classes.
- In the Key Stage One department there are three mixed Year 1 and 2 classes for pupils aged 6 and 7.
- The Lower Key Stage Two department has three mixed Year 3 and 4 classes for pupils aged 8 and 9.
- In the Upper Key Stage Two department there are three mixed Year 5 and 6 classes for pupils aged 10 and 11.
Each classroom area has its own carpeted area where the children may gather for story-telling or discussion and its own cloakroom and toilets. There are also shared working areas in each department.
Outside there are adequate hard surfaces, a playing field, a Memorial Garden, and wild area as well as an Adventure Playground, Tyre Park and Activity Walk which were provided from School Association funds.
